We are happy to announce that the official registration for Protostars and Planets VII (PP7) is now open. PP7 consists of two parts: online discussion on chapter drafts starting now and an in-person conference on April 10-15, 2023 at Kyoto, Japan. This registration is for the online discussion and the in-person conference.
Considering the uncertainty of the pandemic situation, we do not collect registration fees before the end of August and we will possibly change the schedule and the format of the conference. At the in-person meeting, we will provide some online resources such as conference recording and an online discussion platform using Mattermost (similar to Slack) for registered participants, but we believe that the large in-person meeting will facilitate lively scientific discussions as well as social networking. Therefore, we strongly recommend participants to join the in-person meeting.
In order to keep the publication schedule of the Protostars and Planets VII Book, we have decided to facilitate online discussion on the review chapters using Mattermost before the in-person conference. Registered participants can access the manuscripts of the review chapters, and give feedback to the authors using Mattermost until July 31st. The authors will update the chapters based on the feedback, and we will start the publication process in autumn. At the conference, the authors of the chapters will give presentations to summarize their chapters along with the latest development.
If you want to participate in the online discussion, please register now.
All the oral presentations are pre-selected review talks tied to the review chapters. However, we will accept poster presentations at the in-person conference. If you plan to present a poster, indicate your intention and the tentative poster title at the registration, so that the organizers can arrange the conference site. The submission of the final title and the abstract of poster presentations will start no earlier than September. However, it is important for the organizers to have good estimates of the number of participants and poster presentations.
Registration Schedule (subject to change)
At this moment, we do not charge any fee for the registration. We plan to start collecting registration fees in September 2022. Currently we estimate that the early-bird registration fee should be about 500 USD, but it is subject to change depending on the number of participants, poster presentations, as well as Japanese border control regulations. We will announce the details of the registration fee as soon as we officially make a decision.
We use the AMARYS registration system of JTB, which is a travel agency supporting PP7. Once you open the registration website, click the Next Button in the New Registration section.
Since the visa exemption program of Japan is currently suspended, we collect some background information from all the participants. In particular, we request participants to provide information about one of (co-)authored papers or a reference person so that organizers can verify the person is an active researcher or student working in the field. This is necessary since we need approval from the government to have foreigners at the conference, and the approval is necessary for the participants to apply for a visa. As the regulations and requirements to enter Japan are subject to change, please check the latest ones at the website of Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Once your registration is approved, an account for Mattermost, the online discussion platform, will be issued. Please note that it may take several days for issuing the Mattermost account. Also, the registered participants will receive announcements from the PP7 organizers by email. Allow emails sent from the domains jtb.com, ppvii.org, and mm-ppvii.org. Upon the registration, we ask all participants to read and abide by our Code of Conduct .
