New schedule

Dear Pre-Registered Participants of Protostars and Planets VII,

We hope you remain safe and doing well under this difficult situation.

Sorry for this late announcement of the new schedule of the in-person meeting of PP7. We determined the dates of the in-person meeting at Kyoto to be 10-15 April 2023. We were discussing various issues with SAC members and now propose the following procedures for PP7.

(a) We will start the official registration in March April 2022, but we will wait for the payment of registration fee until autumn of 2022.

(b) The PP7 chapter authors are finishing the revision process. We upload the revised (but not yet final) chapter manuscripts on a restricted webpage or Mattermost (similar to Slack) as soon as we receive them. Officially registered participants can make comments on each chapter manuscript through Mattermost. The deadline for giving comments will be the end of June 2022.

(c) We request the chapter authors to make a short video presentation to summarize their chapter in March 2022. We will upload those video on Mattermost or somewhere. We hope this will provide advertisement of each chapter and accelerate the communication in the community. We strictly request the registered participants to make comments based on what is written in the chapter manuscript, not on the video presentation. The video presentation should be used just as an introduction to each chapter.

(d) The authors will revise their chapter manuscript according to the comments from the registered participant and re-submit the final manuscript by September 15 of 2022. We will send the book manuscript to the publisher shortly after this.

(e) We will organize the in-person meeting of PP7 at Kyoto in the period of April 10th – 15th (6 days) of 2023. Each chapter has one slot for the oral talk and we welcome poster presentations from participants, as in the previous Protostars and Planets Series. Some additional oral talks on recent results may be considered. We are still discussing details of the format of the in-person meeting.

We would thank you again for your understanding and look forward to seeing you at Kyoto in April 2023.

With best regards,
Shu-ichiro Inutsuka, on behalf of PP7 Editors

The current plan for PPVII

Dear Pre-Registered Participants of Protostars and Planets VII,

Thank you for pre-registration to Protostars and Planets VII (PP7).  We have received several questions regarding logistics of the meeting.  A short summary of the current plan for the meeting is the following:

  • If we cannot hold an on-site conference in March 2022, we will try to postpone the meeting again to autumn 2022.  Decision will be made by the end of November.
  • We expect the registration fee will be about 60,000 JPY (~550USD), but this is subject to change depending on the format of the conference.

We would like to hold the conference on site in order to facilitate discussion and networking, and to improve the quality of the Protostars and Planets VII book.

Regarding the schedule, we hope to have a conference in March 2022 as planned.  However, the Japanese border is currently closed (see below) to foreigners on short-term visit.  If this situation continues for another couple of months, we will postpone the conference to autumn 2022 (depending on the availability of the conference site), which is another beautiful season in Kyoto.  We will make a decision on whether we postpone the conference by the end of November, because most of the adults in Japan are expected to be vaccinated by that time. We would appreciate your patience.

The chapter drafts are currently under review.  We will make the revised draft after the review available to fully registered participants before the conference.  The authors can update the chapter after the conference according to comments/discussions.  This can be done even if the conference is postponed.  We are planning to provide online discussion system (such as Slack), but we believe that discussion in person at the conference place will be very useful.

Registration fee is yet to be determined, since it is necessary to consider several possibilities of the format of participation.  Our current estimate of registration fee is about 60,000 JPY (~550USD).  You can find reasonably good hotels for ~100USD per night in the downtown of Kyoto.  We hope this information will help you to plan your travel

[Current situation of Japanese border control]

The entry of almost all the foreigners are denied except for those of very special circumstances. Even in the case of re-entry, 14 day quarantine is required, during which people cannot use public transport. Here is the official document from Ministry of Foreign Affairs for the border control: https://www.mofa.go.jp/ca/fna/page4e_001053.html

The restriction is expected to be relaxed at some point, and we are closely monitoring the situation to see whether we can hold the conference in March 2022. We still hope to see you all in Kyoto in 2022.

We would thank you again for your understanding.

With best regards,
Shu-ichiro Inutsuka, on behalf of PP7 Editors

Pre-registration is open

Pre-registration for Protostars and Planets VII meeting is now open here. You can also visit the page from the Pre-registration tab in the navigation menu (Upper right of the web page).

This is NOT an official registration for the PPVII meeting. You still need to register once the official registration is open.

The purpose for pre-registration is twofold:

  • to create an e-mail list for those interested. Once you pre-register, you will be automatically added to the list preregister@ppvii.org, to which we send updates on the PPVII meeting. Please check your email filtering so that you can receive e-mails from us.
  • to estimate the number of participants and collect community’s view on the format of the meeting. The COVID-19 situation in Japan is still not clear, but we are looking for the best way to facilitate active discussion, leading to the production of a high quality book.
